Sustainable mobility and climate change adaptation in the Pustertal Valley
Regional Management LAG Pustertal works together with regional and international partners to promote sustainable mobility, effective climate protection and targeted adaptation to the impacts of climate change. The projects range from comprehensive regional implementation processes at municipal and district level to cross-border EU initiatives. In this context, RMP takes on key roles as a process facilitator, coordinator, interface and driver of innovation.

A central regional initiative outside EU programmes was the support provided for the development of climate action plans within the framework of the Climate.Energy.Region Pustertal (KER Pustertal). Between 2022 and 2025, the Pustertal District Community and Regional Management LAG Pustertal supported all 26 municipalities of the Pustertal in drafting municipal climate action plans as well as in developing inter-municipal and district-wide climate measures.
The climate action plans were developed in accordance with the internationally recognised SECAP standard (Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy) and include concrete action plans with short-, medium- and long-term measures aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing CO₂ emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy, achieving climate neutrality and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
Regional Management LAG Pustertal was primarily responsible for the organisational and administrative coordination of the overall process, the management of joint procurement procedures and funding applications, the coordination of the stakeholders involved, as well as communication and awareness-raising activities.
In addition, all municipalities received support in meeting funding requirements, for example through the development of lighting master plans to reduce energy consumption and light pollution, and through the comprehensive participation of all municipalities in the CasaClima programme of the South Tyrolean Energy Agency – CasaClima.
Extensive participatory formats, including a district-wide public survey on climate change, ensured that the measures were based on local needs and assessments.
Building on these regional foundations, Regional Management LAG Pustertal is also involved in several cross-border EU projects that provide new impetus and foster exchange beyond regional boundaries.
The Mobility For Future (M4F) project targets students of all school levels in Tyrol and South Tyrol. Its aim is to embed mobility, climate protection and climate change adaptation in everyday school life. RMP supports schools and municipalities through participatory processes, workshops and pilot projects, with a particular focus on safe and sustainable school routes and the active involvement of young people in municipal decision-making processes.
Within the Interreg Alpine Space project ADAPTNOW, the Pustertal was one of seven pilot regions. Together with local stakeholders, Regional Management LAG Pustertal supported the development and pilot implementation of climate change adaptation measures. Key focus areas included knowledge exchange, awareness-raising, and climate-related challenges and solutions, particularly in the fields of tourism and forestry.
Through the NetWorkMob – Network for Corporate Mobility Management project, Regional Management LAG Pustertal, together with partner organisations, supports employers in South Tyrol and Tyrol in introducing sustainable corporate mobility concepts. Through consultancy services, workshops, training sessions and cross-border exchange of experience, companies are supported in reducing emissions from commuting and business travel and in implementing future-oriented mobility solutions.
